Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
