Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
