NBA game action

The Miami Heat scored 86 first-half scores against the Grizzlies

Miami Heat claimed a overwhelming 146 to 114 win against the Grizzlies in their initial basketball match since guard Rozier was arrested for suspected illegal sports betting.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also arrested as part of a sweeping FBI investigation into sports betting. Both men contest the claims.

But, the Heat were focused as they recorded 86 first-half scores to lead Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37-year history.

Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and afterwards stated Rozier had the support of the team.

"We support him. Complete backing," Bam stated. "You support him through and through. That's our brother ultimately."

Heat coach Spoelstra added: "Rozier is somebody who is important to everyone. He has made a real positive impact on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he faces this."

The Trail Blazers also won their first game since the detentions, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Billups' non-attendance and leading the squad to a decisive 139 to 119 win over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter said. "Our thoughts are with him and his family but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' by Recent Events

Speaking about the detentions for the first time, league head Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and supporters than the fairness of the game," he told a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

Silver also said an league probe into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he added.

"We investigated that situation and were very transparent about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the NBA is unable to.

"Therefore, we've been working with them since then. Naturally, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.

"And two and a half years after, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in fairness to Terry.

"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
