The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy hospital, though other scenes show the main character navigating a desolate church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms where their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing could be a fraud. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
