Texas Attorney General Paxton is taking legal action against the producers of Tylenol, asserting the companies concealed alleged dangers that the medication presented to pediatric cognitive development.

This legal action follows four weeks after President Donald Trump advocated an unsubstantiated connection between taking acetaminophen - also known as paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in children.

Paxton is suing Johnson & Johnson, which once produced the medication, the exclusive pain medication recommended for pregnant women, and the current manufacturer, which now manufacturers it.

In a declaration, he claimed they "deceived the public by profiting off of pain and pushing pills regardless of the dangers."

The manufacturer states there is no credible evidence linking acetaminophen to autism.

"These companies lied for decades, deliberately risking countless individuals to boost earnings," the attorney general, from the Republican party, declared.

The manufacturer said in a statement that it was "very worried by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the security of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its online platform, the company also said it had "regularly reviewed the applicable studies and there is no credible data that shows a proven link between consuming paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations representing medical professionals and health professionals agree.

ACOG has stated paracetamol - the primary component in Tylenol - is a restricted selection for women during pregnancy to manage discomfort and fever, which can pose significant medical dangers if left untreated.

"In more than two decades of research on the use of paracetamol in gestation, not a single reputable study has definitively established that the usage of paracetamol in any period of pregnancy causes neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the organization commented.

The court filing mentions recent announcements from the former administration in asserting the medication is potentially dangerous.

Recently, Trump raised alarms from public health officials when he advised pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to use acetaminophen when sick.

The US Food and Drug Administration then issued a notice that medical professionals should think about restricting the usage of Tylenol, while also mentioning that "a proven link" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been established.

The Health Department head RFK Jr, who oversees the FDA, had vowed in April to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would establish the origin of autism in a short period.

But authorities warned that finding a sole reason of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the result of a complicated interplay of inherited and environmental factors - would be difficult.

Autism spectrum disorder is a type of permanent neurological difference and impairment that influences how individuals experience and engage with the environment, and is identified using doctors' observations.

In his court filing, Paxton - aligned with the former president who is seeking US Senate - claims Kenvue and J&J "deliberately disregarded and sought to suppress the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The lawsuit seeks to make the firms "remove any commercial messaging" that states acetaminophen is reliable for pregnant women.

The Texas lawsuit parallels the concerns of a collection of mothers and fathers of minors with autism and ADHD who sued the manufacturers of acetaminophen in recently.

Judicial authorities threw out the legal action, saying research from the family's specialists was not conclusive.
